Prince Albert of Monaco and his two sisters believe that "Grace of Monaco," the new movie based on their mother Grace Kelly and starring Nicole Kidman, was totally "farce."
Prince Albert and his sisters Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie alleged that "Grace of Monaco," which launches the Cannes Film Festival this month, was completely made up of "erroneous and dubious historical references".
"The trailer appears to be a farce and confirms the totally fictional nature of this film," they said collectively when issuing a joint statement, according to Reuters ."The Princely Family does not in any way wish to be associated with this film which reflects no reality and regrets that its history has been misappropriated for purely commercial purposes.
Kelly became a princess once she married Prince Albert's faher, Prince Rainier of Monaco, in 1956. British actor Tim Roth is playing Rainier in the movie.
Kelly is also known as a Hollywood actress who starred in films like "To Catch a Thief," "High Society," and Alfred Hitchcock classics like "Rear Window" and "Dial M for Murder." She suffered a tragic death due to a car crash in 1982. Prince Albert took the throne when his father died in 2005.
According to the statement of the Monaco royals, director Olivier Dahan and the producers didn't want to consider the palace's scrutiny which "called into question the entire script and the characters of the film".
Originally scheduled to be released last November, "Grace of Monaco" will debut on May 14th at the Cannes Film Festival.
Variety previously reported that due to dissatisfaction of the latest film version, Harvey Weinstein was initially going to drop United States distribution of the project all together.
