Skype download on Windows 8.1 will allow users to transfer calls from audio to video for Windows Phone users. Skype's new app sounds exciting as Microsoft's new mobile platform is about to launch some new products.
According to news reports, the upgraded Skype app on WP 8.1 is a button that converts regular phone calls into video chats. The Skype version of the app will only work if you have the account details of the person you are talking to and it resembles the FaceTime iOS feature on the iPhone.A preview of the Skype app is available at the Windows Phone Store.
While the app is still in its nascent stage, Skype says there's "more to come in the next few months,"adding "we've seen it in action and it works fine," reports TNW.
An Update on TNW said that Microsoft cannot confirm if Skype will come pre-installed on the Windows Phone 8.1, since the OS is in carrier testing stage.
Recently Skype made a buzz when it announced that it would offer its 'group video calling feature for free to selected users. Skype's group video calling was unveiled in 2010. It was then introduced to Premium users via a Windows desktop, Mac or the Xbox One video console. The move has media reports claiming that Skype will be a rival to Google's hangout video group chat.
In the near future, "I'll call you back on Skype," might sound more sophisticated when Skype-integrated Cortana responds via voice mail or when a call automatically switches to video chat. Cortana integration for Skype will be ready in a couple of months, according to speculation.
Cortana is going to come in very handy on Skype since all you would have to say is something like, "Cortana, get me XX (username) on video. Siri, Google Now and Dragon all have good voice integration but they won't be able to open the app for you.
Skype posted on its blog, "Skype for Windows Modern is built for touch devices," adding, "but we know that many users use 2-in-1 devices and often work in the desktop mode, switching between modern and desktop apps. We wanted to make that easier." One simple solution would be to cut an incoming call in a second device, while the desktop Skype call has been answered.
Skype calls and Skype video calls offer high quality audio and video output and makes for ease of communication. Skype is introducing free group video calling to users on the Xbox One, Mac or Desktop. The communication firm also said that more platforms would be gradually worked into the no charge system that it is implementing.
Similar to Google hangout group chat, Skype enables users who share their account IDs to communicate on a video call using webcams and it has become an efficient business tool, particularly for small business owners.
