"24: Live Another Day" Cast Kiefer Sutherland said that fans can expect a darker and more tortured Jack Bauer as the series returns on Fox at 8 p.m. of Monday, May 5. The show's producers' decision to cut the season down to 12 episodes will hopefully bring the taut tension and excitement back to the series.
"He's angrier. He's working for himself now," "24: Live Another day" cast Kiefer Sutherland said, talking about Jack Bauer, in an interview with L.A. Times. "His patience to deal with things in a legal fashion doesn't really exist."
Back in January, Kiefer Sutherland also showed a group of reporters a glimpse of Jack Bauer's mindset after he's been isolated and working alone for four years, estranged from both his family and country.
"He's pretty pissed off," he said, and whether that means he will use somebody like Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) who was his most ardent supporter from the Counter-Terrorist Unit, "we're going to play with that."
Meanwhile, "24: Live Another Day" co-producer Manny Coto said that cutting down the season to 12 episodes means they don't have to think about filler episodes and just go back to telling Jack Bauer's story.
The showrunner admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that it was one of their problems in the previous seasons because there was always that one episode "that would usually crop up around 17 or 16 where we had to kind of vamp for a while until we figured out what the rest of the season was going to be."
By cutting the "24: Live Another Day" season down to 12, they also cut out the transition episodes so "every episode is kind of the big episode," Manny Coto added.
Aside from "24: Live Another Day" cast Kiefer Sutherland, the new season will also include Mary Lynn Rajskub, Benjamin Bratt, William Devane, Yvonne Strahovski and Tate Donovan.
