Melissa McCarthy’s new movie “Tammy” has a trailer out. When McCarthy emerges from a car wearing a fast food paper bag on her head like a hat as a newscast describes her as a criminal, you know this movie is going to be a good one. “She was super bossy,” says the fast food employee to the news reporter in an interview.
After a string of hilarious movies including “Bridesmaids” with Kristen Wiig, which garnered her numerous award nominations including an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and “The Heat” with Sandra Bullock, Melissa McCarthy is back as Tammy, “a woman who is pushed over the edge when she’s fired from her fast food job, finds her husband cheating, and becomes a fugitive on the run with her grandma (Susan Sarandon) bound for Niagara Falls.” Sarandon, despite being a tad too young to play McCarthy’s grandmother, seems to be a hilarious sidekick to the pushed over the edge Tammy if her character follows what was seen in the trailer below. She plays a hard drinking, foul-mouthed old lady very well.
“Grandma, I don't know where I'm going,” says Tammy as she and her grandma drive in the car. “I always wanted to go to niagara falls. How about a beer?,” asks Grandma. “No,” says driving Tammy. “Whiskey?” “No. Oh, my gosh,” Tammy says. “You're pregnant!” exclaims Grandma. “I'm driving a car,” Tammy says.
The movie also costars Sandra Oh, Toni Collette, Allison Janney, Kathy Bates and Mark Duplass.
“Tammy” is also McCarthy’s first foray into screenwriting with husband Ben Falcone, who co-wrote and directs “Tammy” as his directing debut. Tammy hits theaters on Friday, July 2, the same weekend that Eric Bana’s new movie “Deliver Us From Evil” will be released. “Deliver Us From Evil” is about a New York street cop (Bana) who had put his faith in religion behind him. But as he finds himself targeted by the devil in the form of possessed soldier (Sean Harris), he must face his changed faith. Joel McHale also stars in the movie, playing Bana’s partner and Olivia Munn stars as the cop’s wife.
