Katherine Heigl is up for a comeback!
Katherine Heigl, who is best known for her five-year stint on ABC's Grey's Anatomy, is officially making her way back to the small screen this fall.
NBC announced that Heigl will star and executive produce a new CIA drama called "State of Affairs". This marks the actress' first TV project since leaving Grey's Anatomy in 2010.
Described as Scandal meets The West Wing, the upcoming drama revolves around a CIA officer (Heigl), who becomes the president's daily briefer. Heigl's character will assume responsibility for targeting America's most critical threats while navigating the unique lifestyle that comes with such a high-powered job.
Alfre Woodard also stars as the Commander in Chief who has a special relationship with Heigl's Charleston (Charlie) Tucker - Charlie was engaged to the president's son before a terrorist attack took his life.
The cast also includes Adam Kaufman, Sheila Vand, Cliff Chamberlain, Tommy Savas and Leslie Odom, Jr.
Writer-director Joe Carnahan ("The Blacklist") serves as executive producer with Heigl, Nancy Heigl, Robert Simonds, Sophie Watts, Henry Crumpton, Rodney Faraon and Julia Franz. "State of Affairs" is a production of Universal Television, Bob Simonds Company and Abishag Productions.
Meanwhile, on Grey's Anatomy, after the Return Of The Burke episode, Cristina (Sandra Oh) only has two episodes left before she's gone from Seattle and Grey's Anatomy forever. And who better to comment on her leaving than a series regular who's gone through the same thing herself?
Katherine Heigl (Izzie Stevens) weighed in on Sandra's departure on Twitter. Although the circumstances of their leaving the show are a little different - Katherine asked to be written off to pursue a film career, while Sandra's decided not to renew her contract - Katherine had some nice things to say about her former co-star.
"I wish her all the best," Katherine tweeted. "Can't wait to see what she does next!"
Neither can we. From what we already know, Sandra has a few movies lined up - including Tammy, a comedy starring the always-hilarious Melissa McCarthy. We can't wait!
It's a little heartbreaking to think about the fact that after this season comes to a close, only two of the original interns will remain: Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Alex (Justin Chambers). Otherwise, only a handful of the original cast has stuck with show since day one.
