Apple iPhone Sales in China: Cupertino-Partner GT Advanced Tech Moves Sapphire To Mainland Assembly Line

Apple iPhone Sales in China are expected to forge ahead as the Cupertino firm is shipping sapphire from its Mesa, Arizona facility to China.

The Chinese market has grown considerably and its appetite for a phablet iPhone 6 has hit predictable standards.

Apple iPhone sales forecasts saw two brand new iPhone 6 caliber phones that are soon to be released - one with a 4.5" display screen and another with a 5.5 - 5.7" screen. Apparently, the lower margin phones such as the iPhone 5c have opened up the market for bigger phones from Apple.

With a China Mobile deal in the bag, Apple gets to tap into a new market, which does not have many wireless users with smart phones. With so many clones in Asia, there may be little incentive to go for the real thing. This part of the world is engaged in thrift because inflation and food prices are still high in China and the cost of living is high. According to Motley Fool, not even 50% of China is using smart phones. So, the potential for smartphones like the iPhone 5c is self-evident, though that does not guarantee sales.

But 3G subscribers are booming and China is the next wave of Smartphone technology, when carriers make it more affordable.

With more than half of its revenues from the iPhone, Apple will take advantage of this scenario by creating iPhones for nearly 813 million Chinese, in other words 66% of wireless subscribers. Sounds like a fantastic opportunity and then of course there's other parts of Asia such as India, where the company is using the strategy to increase Apple iPhone sales by lowering their devices' price.

News of Apple's iPhone screen production in China comes from UBS Research's financial analysis of the first quarter on GT Advanced Technologies. GT is Apple's partner and sapphire manufacturer. Sapphire will be replacing Corning's Gorilla Glass on the new iPhone 6. Recent rumors suggested that Apple's was running low on sapphire, with reports speculating a late start for the Cupertino firm on the iPhone 6 project. The iWatch display screens may also contain sapphire, if the supply is enough.
