Rebel Wilson has signed on to star in a remake of the hilarious hit ‘80s comedy, "Private Benjamin," for New Line, according to The Wrap. The original 1980s comedy movie starred Goldie Hawn and was a massive success for Warner Bros. The movie was about a sheltered young high society woman (Hawn) who joins the army on a whim after her husband dies during their honeymoon. Expectedly, "Private Benjamin" finds herself in a more difficult situation than she ever expected.
The original film grossed nearly $70 million and even led to a spinoff, a short-lived television series. The remake will be a twist on the original plot. Wilson will play a redneck who enlists in the Marines along with a rich city girl in a fish-out-of-water comedy. No word yet on who will be cast as the rich city girl. Mark Gordon is producing a reboot of Goldie Hawn's hit 1980 comedy and New Line is currently seeking a director for the modern day update of the film.
Wilson has been busy making a name for herself as one of the most high-profile comedic actresses in Hollywood with starring roles in Super Fun Night and Pitch Perfect 2. She has also signed on to play a supporting role in 2014's Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb, starring Ben Stiller. She previously stole the show in 2011's "Bridesmaids" movie as well as the surprise hit movie "Pitch Perfect."
Wilson's show "Super Fun Night" ended its 17-episode run back in February, with a finale episode that forced Rebel Wilson's Kimmie to make a life-changing decision. "By the end of the season, my character has two eligible bachelors and she's all in a fluster about which one to choose and she does make a choice in the season finale," Wilson told The Hollywood Reporter. "Whether that's good or not, that's a question for the future series."
Wilson also recently revealed that she did some voice work for the upcoming animated film "Kung Fu Panda 3" which is set for release in December 2015. "Had my first recording sesh for Kung Fu Panda 3 today..crushed it x," the actress tweeted.
