"How I Met Your Dad" spinoff is moving forward, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Meg Ryan will take over on voice over duties from Bob Saget for How I Met Your Dad.
The show will star indie film actress Greta Gerwig, who will also serve as a writer on the comedy. CBS is hoping How I Met Your Mother fans will remain on loyal with this female perspective spinoff. The series will be executive produced by Mothercreators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, as well as Up All Night creator Emily Spivey. CBS and producers 20th Century Fox Television both say a series order has not yet been.
Gerwig is set to play the lead role of Sally, a young woman who has never grown up and has no idea what she's doing with her life. She has also just figured out that she and her new husband of less than a year have nothing in common. With an inevitable breakup lurking, Sally must learn to deal with the circumstances of her life. Luckily, Sally will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family, who are often a little too eager to give "good" advice that can backfire badly.
The show will also star Drew Tarver, Tiya Sircar, Nick D'Agosto, Anders Holm and Andrew Santino, who is currently starring in the television show Mixology. That comedy, sources tell THR, is likely marching toward a second season renewal, meaning Santino's role as Sally's older brother in HIMYD would have to be recast. The show will feature an all new cast, bar and would not tie into How I Met Your Mother in any capacity, according to Forbes.
Other pilots in contention at CBS include: Cuz-Bros, Gaffigan, Good Session, The McCarthys, The Mistake, More Time With Family, The Odd Couple, Save The Date,Madame Secretary.
The network is expected to announce its full fall line-up a week from today in New York City.
