Matt Brown's next fight may see him win again as he became one of the biggest winners during the past weekend's UFC fight card. "The Immortal" is now eyeing at a title bout but Dana White says he needs one more "marquee fight" despite his impressive win.
"The Immortal" (currently holding a 19-11 slate, with 17 stoppages) put on an impressive performance at UFC Fight Night 40 against Erick Silva wherein he won via third round TKO. His performance earned him both the Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night honors.
Matt Brown has been on a seven-fight winning streak in the UFC, with six fights ending either via knockout or decision. He faced the toughest competition in the welterweight division such as Mike Swick, Jordan Mein, Chris Cope, and Mike Pyle, among others.
Erick Silva, the opponent in his most recent fight, is also a candidate for Fight of the Year for 2014.
These impressive fights as of late have given him the confidence to personally ask Dana White regarding Matt Brown's next fight, particularly for a shot against current but sidelined champion, Johny Hendricks.
"Dana...am I fighting Johny [Hendricks] next or what?" Brown boldly asked during the UFC Fight Night 40 post-fight press conference.
Dana White, who is always usually open to addressing such questions, did give an answer to the Matt Brown next fight inquiry but left it with a little ambiguity.
"I don't know dude, you just got done with one, you sound like the media," White jokingly replied. "You just got a bunch of money and a Harley, calm down."
Matt Brown has been one of the UFC veterans who have had a seesaw career in the organization. He has been with the company since 2008, holding a record of 12-5 and has fought the most dangerous and talented opponents in his division. This experience has given him the confidence to finally step up to the plate for a title fight.
But Dana White also believes that he needs one more fight before he can get to that most-coveted number one contended spot.
"This fight right now puts him in a position to get that fight before a title shot," White added. "The Condit fight would have gotten him there. That's a nasty division right now. Johny's bicep is torn, we're waiting for that to heal."
