We first met the adorable Japanese school girl back in 1992 and now Sailor Moon is back in 2014! The anime super-heroine returns with a new series called Sailor Moon Crystal and the first episode premieres on July 5, 2014.
Fans waited almost 17 years before they get to see the pig-tailed girl back on television. Japanese video sharing website NicoNico, or formerly known as Nico Nico Doug, revealed the character designs and voice cast of the new Sailor Moon Crystal.
The popular website revealed that Kotono Mitsuishi will be back as the voice of Usagi Tsukino, the Japanese school girl that transforms into Sailor Moon. Fans of the 46-year old voice actress are all excited to hear the original voice of their favorite anime character.
Mitsuishi will be joined by new voice talents Hisaki Kanemoto as Ami Mizuno (Sailor Mercury), Ami Koshimizu as Makoto Kino (Sailor Jupiter), Rina Satou as Rei Hino (Sailor Mars), and Shizuka Itou as Minako Aino (Sailor Venus).
The Sailor Moon 2014 will stream worldwide in Japanese with appropriate subtitles for different territories. Unlike the usual television series, the Sailor Moon Crystal will only air on the first and third Saturday of each month. The reason for this is still unclear. It could be that Toei Animation wants quality work or they are behind schedule.
Sailor Moon was created by Naoko Takeuchi and the original manga was said to be more arc-driven. The anime adaptation, on the other hand, took on a different format where you can see Usagi and the other girls battle with a new threat in each series.
It was surprising how the Japanese super-heroines became popular all over the world, because first of all, the language was in Japanese, and second the English dubbing wasn't that good at all. Sailor Moon is considered by many as one of the most successful animes to hit globally.
The new series aims to follow the original work of Takeuchi, which included the character design and stories. Do you think Sailor Moon 2014 will exceed our expectations?
