Before Final Fantasy XIV dominated the online gaming world, Final Fantasy XI was the first title to be introduced as a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) and after almost ten years, the game returns this May 15 with a new set of updates such as new maps, alter egos, and increased NPC level caps, but will the old title keep up with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn?
Final Fantasy XI was release way back in 2002 for the PlayStation 2 and PC, and the game served as its precursor to the latest title Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The story of FFXI takes place in Vana'diel, where player-created Avatars can both compete and cooperate in a variety of objectives to develop an assortment of jobs, skills, and earn in-game item rewards. Players can also undertake an array of quests and progress through the in-game hierarchy and thus through the major plot of the game.
Since its debut, the game had five expansion packs along with six add-on scenarios. Each expansion pack and add-on brings a new major storyline to the Final Fantasy XI world, along with numerous areas, quests, events and item rewards.
Certainly FFXI made history to the MMORPG world ten years ago, but with A Realm Reborn taking charge in MMORPG of this generation. Can FFXI still compete with its predecessor in terms of gameplay, storyline and overall enjoyment?
FFXIV: A Realm Reborn had already some of the latest patches including new gear, quest, giant Chocobos etc. Some gaming fans cast doubt on the game's return and adding new updates would be a huge waste of time given the FFXIV current success. But others believe that FFXI can still give FFXIV a run for its money, and they can't wait to see how the latest updates will turn out for FFXI this month.
