Actor Joo Sang Wook talked about getting rid of the stereotype of specializing in "Director-related" roles.
On May 12th at a restaurant In Shinsadong, Kangnam-gu in Seoul, Joo Sang Wook met with reporters. In this meeting, he said, "I've heard so much that I'm like a director so I wanted to play a role that was more similar to my personality. I wanted a fun role of this sort and I finally found my opportunity" he started.
Joo Sang Wook said, "Now I'm not in the role of a director but an executive" he joked. "Nonetheless, if I kept on receiving feedback that I looked like a director, I'd continue to act as if I were a director. That's why I wasn't burdened at all and it was so different than the role before so I was confident" he laughed.
Moreover, he said, "Actually I don't think I was really big on the image of acting like a 'director.' Rather, when you say 'director' you think of me so I think it'd stay with me. However, I was able to show a different image with this piece and many people say that they looked at me in a different way so I felt great" he said.
Joo Sang Wook said, "In "Cunning Single Lady", I didn't want to be funny on purpose. I was pretty sincere in my own way but people thought I was funny. It's hard to say what kind of acting is easier but personally, it's easier to break down. Rather than being In a set frame like "Good Doctor", I think I was more free.
As for roles that he wanted to challenge himself with, he said that he wanted to be a king in a period drama. He said, "I like period dramas and I think kings are really cool. There is no higher place to go. When I have a chance, I want to challenge myself to being a king."
In the MBC drama that ended last month, "Cunning Single Lady", Joo Sang Wook plays the role of the D&T Soft Benchers President and Executive and plays the role of Cha Jung Woo who falls In love with his ex-wife Na Ae Ra (played by Lee Min Jung).
