Android vs. iOS 7: If you haven't already figured it out, a cold war is brewing between Android and iOS. It's all about apps, functionality and market share. Clearly Android is winning at the moment because so many Samsung smartphones now use Android as the platform of choice.

An outright supremacy of one over another translates to an increase in market share, which, in turn, means lots of cash for business. And that's exactly what Google and Apple, the makers of the two OS platforms want. That's just common sense.

Looking at the OS scene from a technical angle, Android's success is primarily sales-driven and relies on its myriad of device options, while Apple has a strong reputation for quality and reliability with amazing engineering quirks.

The iOS platform is a stalwart in security and smooth functionality, but its top-notch performance is linked to exorbitant pricing. Apple's software is comparable to Android but it is considered proprietary and lacks useful options on Android. Nowadays a strong reason is required for the user to select an Android device over an iOS one. People don't like to change the type of smartphones they use unless they are really unhappy with it.

Here is a list of ten reasons due to which Android beats iOS as compiled by Business Insider:

Customization is a factor that favors the Android smartphone because it enables the user to take part in the phone's design, functions and applicability. This is important because it adds value, meaning and satisfaction for the user.

For example, this means the user would want to use personal photos for the home screen or use vibrant themes provided by the OS. Jelly Bean 4.3, an Android OS allows users to use separate accounts, with each account using different apps. This is a fantastic way to maintain your home, work and friends phone usage separate so you don't have to worry about a mix-up. In comparison, iOS7 or its predecessors do not have a similar option.

Sharing Option is one other option that is made easier with Android. On the other hand, the iOS sharing option is limited. Android has a sharing option with a myriad of apps such as installed applications including Mail, Whats App, and WeChat.

In contrast, the iOS user may have the 'brick and mortar' option like Text, E-mail, Facebook, Flicker and Twitter. Android keeps the user engaged because it enables sharing of several apps from the Google Play Store. Android makes itself heard with a 'tailor-made' solution to the smartphone's ability to adapt to the user and until iOS can tap into a similar structure of convenient apps sharing, interoperability and user customization, 2014 may still be the year of the Android.
