The Apple and Dr Dre Beats story takes on a life of its own. With the rapper-entrepreneur poised to settle a multibillion-dollar deal with Apple for the Beats brand he and Jimmy Iovine built, others are sharing in the limelight of his success.
Dr. Dre's son is happy for the goldmine his father stumbled upon, but says he hasn't received anything from his father, nor does he expect anything to come by in the future. Curtis Young is Dre's firstborn and exact lookalike.
Young isn't bitter with the situation. His fledgling career is a wonder in an industry built on familial connections. TMZ caught up with him catching a flight bound for Mexico; Young is a rapper staking his claim on the industry by working from the ground up.
Young took a commercial flight from an Ontario airport with a coach ticket, a flipside of high-profile rappers with their private planes and yachts, even private airfields. Curtis maintains he hasn't caught any windfalls from his father since the announcement of the Dr Dre Beats deal, and he's fine with it (tmz.com).
Compton Mayor Aja Brown is also offering Dr. Dre the key to their city, in recognition of his entrepreneurial spirit (or prowess). Brown is also asking the rapper to take part in Compton's performing arts and music programs, particularly through sponsorships.
The Dr Dre Beats deal should give the rapper plenty of leverage. The key to the city is his whichever way he decides.
It is also reported Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine will take on senior positions at Apple if the deal pushes through. Their roles are yet to be verified, but both will report directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook.
The Dr Dre Beats deal is yet to be settled, but once it's signed the rapper is a verified billionaire, the first one in rap.
