Star Wars 7 News: Film Lead Leaks Twitter Pic of First-Day Production! Two-Week Stint in Abu Dhabi Confirms Official Development

In Star Wars 7 news, the film is officially underway and in production. A Twitter photo posted by one of the movie's main cast confirms.

The photo is a snap of the film slate, taken by John Boyega, who plays the role of a drone pilot wrongfully accused of terrorism. Boyega also stars on the ongoing TV series "24: Live Another Day." (mtv.com)

In a recent leak, the next installment to the Star Wars franchise is scheduled to start production Friday, May 16. The filming phase is also expected to last two weeks.

"A person with knowledge of the film confirmed to tabloid! exclusively that filming will begin on May 16, contrary to several reports stating that it began on Tuesday. Filming in the UAE is likely being supported by local production company twofour54, most recently responsible for the filming of action flick Fast & Furious 7 in the capital city. Production company twofour54 are also the local production partners for Bollywood film, Bang Bang." (starwars7news.com)

Director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm confirmed part of recent Star Wars 7 news; the film's official cast was revealed several weeks ago, a roster which involves newcomers, joined by familiar celebrities with role reprisals.

Aside from Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Max von Sydow, Andy Serkis (of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy fame) will join the ensemble.

Stars from the original trilogy include Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker and Peter Mayhew.

The Abu Dhabi filming will continue until the end of May, according to sources. Star Wars Episode 7 is expected to hit theaters December 18, 2015.

The story is set thirty years after the events in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, with the leads headed by a trio of new characters. The IMAX Corporation signed a deal with Walt Disney Studios to develop an IMAX-ready release for 3D theatres.
