Manny Pacquiao news this week reveals the eight-division world champion signing a new two-year contract with long-time promoter Top Rank and report has that the management is looking at Macau, China as the "Pacman's" next fight venue.
Although several reports have been released about "Pacman" possibly severing his ties with Top Rank and Bob Arum altogether, these were dismissed by Arum himself.
The 82-year old promoter spoke to The Associated Press about his plans for Manny Pacquiao for the near future, which includes possible fights against his rival promoter Golden Boy Promotions, considering that both camps have already been in talks of a likely partnership.
"If Oscar takes over the company like he's talking about, we're open to those guys also," Arum said. "The other guy (Schaefer) says he won't deal with me, so we'll see what Oscar says."
Golden Boy founder and former world champion Oscar De La Hoya has reportedly been in a feud with his CEO Richard Schaefer, wherein the latter publicly expressed his dissatisfaction towards business.
Now that Arum and De La Hoya have ended their "cold war" and began their initial steps to reconciliation, a possible partnership may be brewing between the two, which can only mean more high-profile opponents for Manny Pacquiao.
Further Manny Pacquiao news revealed that due to "Pacman's" last pay-per-view numbers, which rendered below average numbers, Bob Arum sees another Macau fight for the Filipino champ.
"We're talking Macau tonight, that's our first choice," he said. "But there are other options. We'll see what Vegas has to offer and there could be an offer from the Mideast. But it will probably be Macau."
Manny Pacquiao has been with Top Rank since 2005. Except for 2006 wherein he fought three times, he has been fighting twice a year since then.
Given this trend, the contract extension means five more fights for "Pacman", and Arum could not have been any more delighted.
"Manny is the kind of guy who is extraordinarily loyal and he's had a great career with us" Arum spoke of Manny Pacquiao news. "We had to work out the different terms and that sort of stuff, but we got it done."
