Buzz For 'The Last of Us' Movie Adaptation Revived Months Before The Remastered Version’s Release; Naughty Dog In Collaboration With The Film Industry’s Best

The demand for The Last of Us movie adaptation is revived, with recent news of a remastered version of the game being developed for the PlayStation 4. Naughty Dog is currently concentrated on the port, but has previously confirmed that a screen adaptation is in consideration.

Development is yet to reach the drawing board, but some of the crucial elements are confirmed. Screen Gems will distribute the film, with the game's creative director Neil Druckman writing the screenplay.

Collaborative production involves executives from developer Naughty Dog. Druckman and game director Bruce Starley team up with presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Belstra. Saimi Raimi (of the first "Spiderman") lends a hand.

Anticipation for The Last of Us movie adaptation started with fan-based clamor, considering the game's excellent storytelling. The original release of the game won 200 awards for Game of the Year, more notably a Writers Guild of America Award. The Last of Us also garnered ten nominations in the BAFTA Video Game Awards (comingsoon.net).

Evan Wells was quoted regarding the collaboration, confirming the partnership with Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures was a perfect fit. Raimi's reputation for making gory, visceral suspense and horror films is expected to do justice to the game's somber and hopeless mood.

The plot for The Last of Us movie adaptation is familiar enough; survivors of an epidemic virus which ravaged the earth stake their claim in a post-apocalyptic society, of predators and scavengers.

The duo of protagonists have backdrops and agendas that add depth to an already engaging game. Casting for the characters is yet to be confirmed, but early favorites include Gerard Butler and Dylan McDermott for Joel, Maisie Williams, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Ellen Page for Ellie.

Fan-made samples of The Last of Us movie adaptation have been shared on social media, using cinematics and play-through footage of the game. Druckman insists the film won't necessarily use the same characters in the game, but will explore parallel storylines in the same universe (screenrant.com).
