Disney's "Descendants" has rounded up the cast for the villainous parents and the earlier addition of singer Brenna D'Amico prompted rumors that it's going to be a musical.
According to Variety, Kathy Najimy ("Hocus Pocus") is going to play the Evil Queen, who is mother to teen Evie (Sofia Carson).
Maz Jobrani ("13 Going on 30") will play Jafar, the villain in the Alladin animated series, and father to Jay (Booboo Stewart of "X-Men: Days of Future Past).
Wendy Raquel Robinson ("Miss Congeniality") will play Cruella de Vil, previously played by Glenn Close in the 1996 Disney film "101 Dalmatians." She will be mom to Carlos, played by Cameron Boyce ("Grown Ups 2").
Melanie Paxson ("Saving Mr. Banks") will play the Fairy Godmother, mother to Jane (Brenna D' Amico.)
Earlier, it was announced that Kristin Chenoweth ("Rio 2") will play Maleficent, also played by Angelina Jolie in the 2014 Disney film, mother to Mal, played by Dove Cameron ("Cloud 9").
Disney's "Descendants" will be directed by Kenny Ortega. The synopsis of the Disney Channel original movie says:
"A present-day idyllic kingdom where the benevolent teenage son of King Beast and Queen Belle offers a chance at redemption for the troublemaking offspring of Cruella De Vil (Carlos), Maleficent (Mal), the Evil Queen (Evvie) and Jafar (Jay)."
However, according to BSC Kids, the casting of newcomer Brenna D'Amico "proves even further that Descendants will be a musical movie."
The website also revealed that Aussie actor Mitchell Hope ("Down The Way") will play Ben, the kind son of Belle and Beast and next in line to the throne.
Disney's "Descendants" will put the teenage children of the famous villains in a situation where they will have to make the choice: follow the footsteps of their parents or their inner goodness.
Disney's "Descendants" is set to be released in 2015.
