Taylor Swift reveals her darker side as she gets "dramatic make-under" for "The Giver" promotional poster. According to Us Weekly, the actress' all-American girl image appears to be made-under on the promotional shot, discarding her blonde hair for wavy brunette locks parted down the center, while keeping her lips neutral in color.

The almost entirely black & white poster features a line aligning with one of the character's eyes. Swift's blue eye seems to be the most vibrant part of the promotional picture as she appears to be wearing a rather dull black and white outfit. To give an insight into the characters, each poster features a tagline. Swift's reads: "the truth lies in her past." as described by Daily Mail.

"The Giver" is based on Lois Lowry's classic dystopian young adult novel where Rosemary, played by Swift, is mentored by the Giver, played by Jeff Bridges in the film. Her story turns out to be tragic, according to Us Weekly.

Reportedly, Swift expressed how happy she was to work with the A-list cast last November.

"I couldn't believe it was happening to me," she told Access Hollywood. "I learned so much," she added of working alongside Bridges, Meryl Streep, and Katie Holmes.

Meryl Streep plays the villainous role of Chief Elder in the movie, appears stern on her poster. "When people have the power to choose, they choose wrong," it reads.

Katie Holmes plays the role of Jonas' mother. "The elders are never wrong," Holmes' promotional pic says.

The character of Jonas was played by Brenton Thwaites. Jonas is selected to be the Receiver of Memory and through the process he uncovers the truth behind the world's past including the discovery that his forefathers gave up humanity in order for a stable society. His poster reads, "You can make things better."

The movie centres around a utopian world where every member of society has a specific role.

The Giver was directed by Phillip Noyce, and will be released into cinemas this summer on August 15.
