Deciding whether to go public with a relationship is a question k-drama celebrities must face. Sooner or later they will be photographed out on a date, even if the girlfriend or boyfriend is a non-celebrity.
While many celebrities think its best to be honest, others prefer to keep their dating life secret. Sometimes going public works out but other times it results in a lack of privacy that many non-celebrities find difficult to endure.
After a Sports Seoul photographer snapped the 34-year-old actor Chun Jung Myung and his 22-year-old girlfriend out on a date, his agency, Red Line Entertainment, confirmed that the couple had been dating for about a month.
She worked in the fashion industry and was not a celebrity. The couple met through friends. Things seemed to be going well until the girlfriend suddenly found herself in the news.
Chun told TV Report that his girlfriend found it uncomfortable to be the center of so much attention. Photographs of her and personal information was found on several websites. It hurt Chun Jung Myung to see her so upset. Ultimately, it created too much pressure for the very new relationship and they decided not to date anymore.
His agency confirmed that the couple had broken up and were no longer in touch. They said that after the article was released about them dating, she found it difficult to deal with all the attention she received.
"It was especially stressful when her personal circumstances and photos were revealed on the Internet," said a Red Line Entertainment representative.
And the publicity did not just affect his girlfriend. Several women mistaken for his girlfriend also found themselves the subject of unwanted public scrutiny.
The agency representative also said that, "Chun Jung Myung thought they could associate more comfortably if they admitted that they were dating, but seeing as how she is not a celebrity, she found the attention difficult to deal with. Chun Jung Myung is also hurting from the breakup."
Chun Jung Myung debuted with the 1999 drama "School 2" and has since appeared in "Cinderella's Sister" with Moon Geun Young and Ok Taecyeon. He was also in the dramas "Goodbye Solo," "What's Up Fox?" "The Duo" and "Glory Jane."
Besides his role in the 2013 film "Queen of the Night," he appeared in the films "The Aggressives," "Les Formidables" and "Hansel and Gretel." He is currently preparing for his next project.
