Reports of the iOS 8's rollout are brewing, even as users anticipate the iOS 7.1.2 release date.
The iOS 7.1.2 update will offer a few fixes to the firmware, in addition to significant tweaks. Leaks of the release first started in MacRumors; the site noticed web logs posted using devices with the firmware installed. The official iOS 7.1.2 release date is yet to be announced.
The devices were noted as connected or sourced from the Apple networks, according to MacRumors reports. It's possible the firmware is currently being field-tested and tweaked.
Minor tweaks and fixes are included in the update, and the firmware may not go through exhaustive testing. With the iOS 7.1.2 release date pending, developers may not even stress-test the update, which is reported to be in the early stages of development.
Minor tweaks mean the firmware will address bug complaints of the previous update, notably the email attachment glitch; messages are lost when users switch from their iPhones to another device. Users also found it difficult to dissociate from iMessage. Subsequent server problems only worsened the problem.
Apple has issued a statement confirming the issues, particularly the iMessage glitch. "We recently fixed a server-side iMessage bug which was causing an issue for some users, and we have an additional bug fix in a future software update. For users still experiencing an issue, please contact AppleCare."
The iOS 7.1.2 release date will likely be overshadowed by the announcement of a new build, the iOS 8, which reportedly coincides with the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 2. Significant changes in interface and features are expected.
The venue for the introduction of a new iOS build could mean Apple will distribute copies to developers for beta testing in preparation for a September release, which is also the reported rollout date for the iPhone 6. The iOS 7.1.2 release date is likely to be followed by additional firmware tweaks (ibtimes.com).
