Last week, One Piece manga went to an immediate hiatus for two weeks as series creator Eiichiro Oda was hospitalized for peritonsillar abscess, a medical complication resulting from an infection caused by tonsillitis. Because of that, One Piece manga has not been serialized in Shueisha's May 27 and June 3 issues Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.

Today, the official website of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine released an announcement that One Piece manga will not be serialized for two weeks, which means that One Piece manga will not appear in the June 9 and June 16 issues of the said magazine. One Piece manga creator Eiichiro Oda will undergo an operation to remove his tonsils. According to the statement, One Piece manga is expected to return to Weekly Shonen Jump on June 23.

According to the One Piece manga creator himself, "Since last year, I've tended to get swollen tonsils when I get tired. The surgery I'm having this time will take out the tonsils, which really hindered my work. Since I'm having this surgery anyways, I plan to have a bazooka installed on my shoulder," he jokes, and then he added these words: "I'll be back with my body stronger, so I can clear my workload in the latter half of this year. I'll be right back, so please come play with me again."

Meanwhile, the 74th book volume of One Piece manga will be released on June 4 as reported by Oricon. It had an initial print run of 4 million copies which is already the 11th volume in the series to have an initial printing of four million copies or higher. We guess One Piece manga on hiatus isn't that bad at all? After all Oda is just like the rest of us and needs rest too once in a while. Get well soon, Eiichi!
