Is the latest Batman vs Superman news a precursor to something massive? Warner Bros. is reported to build a DC Universe out of the next few installments.
The crossover movie already has a working title, confirming a sequel of sorts for The Man of Steel franchise. "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice is pegged for a May 6, 2016 release, but Ben Affleck's best friend lets the cat out of the bag with an unofficial tease.
Kevin Smith previously hinted the caped crusader will wear different batsuits, drive different vehicles; he has recently went out on a limb and laid out DC's plans for an extended franchise, involving movie projects in the following years.
It's alleged the Batman vs Superman news is just a taste of the DC Universe being engineered. The graphic novel franchise is following through on the Marvel strategy of movie licenses, although with a slightly different approach.
Marvel's push is to build a universe before narrowing down on character sequels. DC is against an uphill challenge, building its own out of the framework of its heroes and villains (indiewire.com).
Smith's leak is very telling, if at all confirmed by Warner Bros. and DC executives: "But look, they're obviously beginning something, and there's a stretch of these flick... From what I understand now, it's no longer like, 'This is Superman 2.' They're not doing these things. They're doing like, 'Here's Man of Steel. Here's Batman/Superman: Dawn of Justice.' The next one is not like a sequel to one of the characters. They're just going to keep building their universe for about five or six movies, but all of them... It's supposed to tell one massive story, which is all Justice League oriented."
Updates on Batman vs Superman news also report the involvement of Joker, played by Calvin Mulley (hngn.com). Most of the cast from the standalone movies will reprise their roles in the crossover.
