John Mayer, Katy Perry May Be Writing A Song About You. The "Roar" singer says in an interview with Cosmopolitan that her relationship with Mayer may inspire some songs.
Katy Perry will be making history by appearing on the cover of 62 international editions of Cosmopolitan magazine. "Katy's music and attitude have universal appeal to young women everywhere," Joanna Coles, editor in chief of Cosmopolitan, said in a statement. "She crosses all cultural boundaries. Her music is soulful and empowering in equal measure. She's the first Cosmo global icon."
"Roar" singer Katy Perry is expected to share details about her relationship and break-up with Mayer in all 62 global issues of the mag. Her highly-anticipated interview comes four months after the "Who You Love" collaborators split up in February.
Perry said to Cosmopolitan, "There's no bad blood. But I'm sure there will be inspired songs."
John Mayer told TMZ on Monday, June 2, that he was fine being the subject of his ex-girlfriend's music.
Mayer said, "I have super strength for gang-ups. I'm fine. That's what you're supposed to do, man. You're supposed to write songs. You're just not supposed to tell everybody you're doing it."
Paradise Valley singer then added, "I actually want everybody's song to go number 1. I purposely stopped writing hits to give other people a chance to have number one songs. I just stand to the side."
Aside from Katy Perry, Mayer's other famous ex-girlfriends include Taylor Swift and Jessica Simpson. Taylor Swift, famously sang about her relationship with Mayer in a 2010 song titled "Dear John."
Mayer responded to the song in a June 2012 interview, saying that "Dear John" was "cheap songwriting" and he was "humiliated" by it. "It's abusing your talent," he told Rolling Stone in an interview, adding: "That's bullsh---... It really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down."
"Songwriters write songs because of people, about people," Mayer later said in an interview. "Anything someone else wrote is their reception of a song. I don't get involved with [it]. It's none of my business."
