The Angry Birds franchise currently stands as the largest mobile app success in the world, so a film appears to be the next step of progression for this massive money-making vehicle. A 3D CG animated feature, Angry Birds will be produced by Marvel Studios former CEO, now Rovio senior advisor David Maisel and Despicable Me producer John Cohen will take the helm as producer.

John Cohen said that he is really eager to do this project. According to Cohen, "I've personally spent countless hours playing the Angry Birds game over the last few years, which I can now happily justify as research for the movie."

Cohen is not the only one hooked to this addicting game, Modern Family's star Sofia Vergara expressed her fascination towards the game by dressing up as an Angry Bird last Halloween. If she gets tapped as a voice actress, it would not be a big surprise as she will also give a very interesting sound with her Latina accent.

Pop Sensation Justin Bieber also stated his admiration for the game in his Twitter account.

As a testament for its success, the game was adapted by other movie franchises like Star Wars and Rio to name a few. If Angry Birds and Star Wars get a movie crossover, the story will finally have the depth story-wise that most audiences are looking for. It would be interesting to see how fans would react if one of the birds says "may the feathers be with you"!

Angry Birds is a movie based on the Angry Birds series of video games and is scheduled for release in theaters summer 2016. It will be computer-animated and will be released in 3D. The film will be produced and financed by Rovio Entertainment. On May 15, 2013, it was announced that the film will be released on July 1, 2016, and will be distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment. On May 20, it was announced that Jon Vitti will write the screenplay for the film, while Catherine Winder is also joining as a producer. On October 9, it was announced that Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly will be the directors.
