News of Antonio Banderas Melanie Griffith divorce is confirmed after several years of rumors the couple has parted ways.
Melanie Griffith reportedly filed for the divorce, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the claim. 56-year old Griffith is calling it quits after 18 years of marriage to the actor.
The couple has an only daughter between them, Stella, who is turning 18 this year. Griffith is claiming child support for their daughter, as well as sole physical custody. She'll continue to share legal custody of her with Banderas.
The couple afforded a joint statement on the news: "We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together."
Banderas, 53, is also requested to continue support for his estranged spouse. Sources say the couple's decision to part ways is amicable and expected.
The Antonio Banderas Melanie Griffith divorce has been a recurring topic in the rumor mill for the past years, and it's only the recent report which seemed to validate these. They first met each other on the set of 1995's "Two Much."
Griffith was seen gracing the red carpet gala for the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award for Jane Fonda, the evening before reports of the divorce broke out. She appeared solo but wearing her wedding rings.
If the divorce pushes through, it will be Banderas' second and Griffith's fourth.
Griffith was previously married to Steve Bauer before marrying (twice) Don Johnson, with daughter Dakota Johnson between them. Dakota is 24 and is set to play a role in the film adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey" (nydailynews.com).
Banderas was previously married to Ana Leza, and the couple separated after the actor met Griffith on May 1995. The Antonio Banderas Melanie Griffith divorce is filed and in progress.
