New reports have surfaced about a standalone Channing Tatum Gambit movie.
Talks about Tatum playing the part of Gambit has started since "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Unfortunately for the "22 Jump Street" actor, the part was given to Taylor Kitsch. Now that there are rumors of a new Gambit movie, or at least a new involvement of the character, Tatum's name started to resurface.
In his interview with Empire, Tatum shared his views about the character and of a possible standalone Gambit movie.
"Obviously there's nothing official. There are only conversations and dreams right about now, really."
"I've been pretty vocal about wanting to be the part of Gambit for a very long time. It's a weird, pinching-myself moment that we're even having the conversation."
It seems that the Channing Tatum Gambit movie is starting to get a move-on with producer Lauren Shuler re-pitching the idea of Tatum playing Gambit back in January. She expressed her intent of seeing a Gambit movie in the future.
Comments made by director Bryan Singer all the way back in March may have suggested including characters like Gambit and Nightcrawler on the next "X-Men" movie, "X-Men: Apocalypse." But, having Tatum play Gambit in the movie might not be in the plans since the actor is leaning toward the idea of having a standalone movie first.
"We've talked about it being a standalone, first, and actually trying to change the "hero" superhero movie. Because Gambit is not your typical hero. He's a thief. He walks on the grey. I'm hoping we can change it a little bit, and then ultimately feather into the other ones."
Given the circumstance, fans expecting to see Tatum in "X-Men: Apocalypse" might have to fan out the flame for the meantime as it seems to very unlikely to happen. However, if a Channing Tatum Gambit standalone movie will get the green light for production, fans might be lucky to get a glimpse of him in a post-credits teaser in "X-Men: Apocalypse."
