The "Private Practice" star gets candid on the Taye Diggs Idina Menzel divorce, breaking his silence after keeping fans and the press in the dark.
The couple had a relationship celebrated as one of the more successful marriages in Hollywood, comparable to that of Courtney Cox and David Arquette. The recent fallout of Antonio Banderas' marriage to Melanie Griffith proves that not all great marriages have happy endings, though.
Diggs and Menzel announced December they were having a divorce after ten years of marriage. In a recent interview, Diggs commented he was quite ready for the public's shocked reception.
"I'd be lying if I said there weren't times when I thought, 'Oh, man, people are going to trip out (if we split).'" Menzel herself hinted of the stress the relationship took on them as a married couple, in an April 2013 interview with People magazine.
She was quoted: ""We work at it... I'm not going to glamorize it or glorify it -- we go through tough times like everybody else, but we love each other very much."
Diggs was optimistic about their relationship, even in hindsight. "Maybe they thought it was cute that we met in 'Rent.' There weren't a lot of couples like us in the theater community -- and I know there aren't a lot of performers as talented as she is ... and then you have the whole mixed (race) thing. It was easy for people to root for us."
The couple still declines to reveal details of their separation. They have a son born in 2009, Walker, and they've since redirected focus to co-parenting and rearing. The Taye Diggs Idina Menzel divorce was amicable, and the couple remains friends after the breakup.
Diggs, 43, is reportedly dating model Amanda Smith Brown. On his current relationship with Menzel: "Right now, we're still trying to figure out a lot of stuff. We're on different coasts and our son is getting older" (cnn.com).
