Blackberry Classic Q20 Release Date:Launch in November, CEO Chen Discusses Phablet Strategy & Successful Sale Of Z3

Blackberry Classic Q20 release date appears to be around November, according to emerging reports. The Q20 will sport a 3.5″ touchscreen. Although the Blackberry (NASDAQ: BBRY) Classic Q20 has been unveiled, no one knows what it really looks like.

According to a design concept by graphic design artist UrbanGlowCam, the Q20 'Classic' evolution shows the device having a touch capacitive options and back buttons in addition to a conventional TrackPad. A comparison between the Blackberry Classic Q20 and the Q10 also reveals the development phase of both devices as the Blackberry Classic enters the market to compete with the Samsung (NASDAQOTH: SSNLF) and Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) heavyweights.

Despite the strategy to turnaround Blackberry's dwindling share prices, cost cutting is only part of the business of competing with the likes of Apple and Samsung. It takes proactive effort and CEO John Chen wants to do everything he can to turn the Canadian smart phone maker a success again. One of his plans includes releasing a 'phablet.'

Chen told reporters, "If we will do another thing, we will probably go to phablet. I think if you look at our strategy and if you look at where the market goes, there is definitely a good market for something between a phone and tablet."

"I think the phablet could be early, the tablet is already late. That is not a bad thing, because you can bring new technology," Chen said. While answering questions about his new business model to turn Blackberry around, Chen said that the newly launched Blackberry Z3 is the kind of smart phone that the company will be capitalizing on instead of a tablet.

Chen noted that the Blackberry Z3 was a strong product in Inodnesia and expects to sell a million smartphones. He was responding to a question about the increasing popularity of iOS and Android devices in the country.

"They are very focused on consumers. We have a very strong hold in enterprise. We do compete in the consumer space, and the product we launched [the Z3] is a very competitive product, especially since our brand is really big here in Indonesia. I hope to sell the Z3 a lot, like a million units or something," Chen added.

While Blackberry will be focusing on phablets, it will not be getting rid of its enterprise roots. Blackberry plans to release Blackberry Messenger (BBM) for enterprises labeled e-BBM." The release will begin in June 2014.
