Reports that the search for Madeleine McCann found closure is not true. Portugal officials have launched an eight-day search near the area where Madeleine McCann went missing seven years ago. Sadly, however, this search did not uncover any new evidence. London's Metropolitan Police, more popularly coined as Scotland Yard, is leading the current hunt for Madeleine.
Madeleine was only a few weeks shy of her 4th birthday when she suddenly disappeared in Praia da Luz, particularly from her family's private holiday apartment. She disappeared in 2007 and her search has not had any headway through the years.
Scotland Yard stated that its officials are presently working alongside Local Portuguese police and experts to look for Madeleine in certain areas in the entire resort town. They had already searched a total of 60,000 square meters of ground, including the drains and derelict buildings. This much search space makes the search for Madeleine McCann "the largest deployment" to have ever been done by UK police overseas for this type of case.
Police officials involved in the search have released a statement that said, "The decision to search the 'horse shoe' shaped piece of waste ground to the west Praia da Luz and other sites was as a specific result of the UK's investigation work to date." The statement went on with, "Forty-one ground anomalies were identified by both aerial survey and ground analysis which were then investigated fully."
To this day, local police has still not found any new evidence that can help them find the missing child, but claim to be keeping tabs on each person who does any activity on that piece of land, "It has given us an essential understanding of the activity on and people that have used this piece of land."
According to Scotland Yard, there is still a "substantial amount of work yet to be completed" in their investigation. They have also mentioned that "more activity" will be underway shortly.
