The Miss Universe Thailand 2014 winner stepped down from throne after the backlash of her hate comments in social media against the "Red Shirt" followers of former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
The Channel News Asia reported that Miss Universe Thailand 2014 winner Weluree Ditsayabut resigned from her title barely a month since she was crowned. This was after gaining criticisms from her comments allegedly calling for the "damn Reds" or the "Red Shirt" supporters of the ousted Prime Minister to exit their country.
She was quoted saying via her Facebook page that "The land of Thailand is dirty because of people who want to get rid of the monarchy," referring to the political turmoil the country has been facing since last year.
"I am not neutral. I am on the side of His Majesty the King," the 22-year-old Thai beauty also commented.
The said comment was posted in November last year has now been deleted, the CNN said.
Supporters of the government quickly criticized the Miss Universe Thailand 2014 winner saying that she just had the victory because of her connections.
Reportedly, social media users also pointed out her appearance as not suitable for the crown.
In a news conference last Monday, the actress-turned beauty queen, also known as Nong Fai, decided not to pursue representing the country because the cyber-bullying she got had already took a toll in her family.
Facing the media without her crown and sash, the Miss Universe Thailand 2014 winner Weluree Ditsayabut said: "The comments that I have received were quite severe."
"I felt under pressure. I tried to improve myself but what I could not stand was to see my mother stressed," the teary-eyed beauty queen said.
She added, "I said sorry... I understand that I am a public figure but when I see my mother is unhappy, as a daughter I cannot be happy either. So, today I have decided to step down as Miss Universe Thailand."
Meanwhile, Miss Universe Thailand has yet to announce who will replace the resigned beauty queen in the title but speculations say that runner-up Pimbongkod "Ellie" Chankaew will take the vacated position.
The organizers also said that they will carefully screen the contestant's behavior, especially in the social media, in their future pageants.
Thailand has been in a political crisis for months now forcing the military to implement Martial Law in May, CNN reported.
