The Last of Us movie won't feature Joel and Ellie, so what is the movie going to be about?
When the Last of Us movie was announced, it was going to be a straight adaptation of the videogame according to the creator of The Last of Us, Neil Druckmann.
Talking to IGN during last night's BAFTA Game Awards 2014, at which The Last of Us picked up five awards, Druckmann began by clarifying the upcoming The Last of Us movie will be an adaptation of the game, though how it'll be realised is unclear.
"It's an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us," he confirmed. "As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film... We're not sure yet. We're only just scratching the surface."
That scratching the surface became the turning point for the movie as the studio wanted to change the storyline of the film as an origin story of how the outbreak began.
According to the report of the Movie News Hound, Naughty Dog was pretty reluctant at the suggestion of the studio execs about the change of the storyline but Naughty Dog allegedly gave in and they cited that the new storyline would further expand the universe of the Last of Us.
This change in the storyline also affects the main cast of the film as the movie would feature other survivors instead of focusing on Joel and Ellie.
