The latest PlayStation TV review dishes out the details on Sony's newest offering in console entertainment, and it's as portable as mobile devices can get.
Sony's E3 presentation Monday came with plenty of reveals, in new titles and console enhancements. The tech giant also unveiled its plans for the PlayStation TV, a portable device rumored to be released this fall.
The PlayStation TV is intended to revive Sony's aging PS Vita, or extend its shelf-life at the very least. PlayStation fans have so many options to choose from, though; with the market's tight budgets considered, Sony offers features in the PS TV that merit purchase.
PlayStation TV enhances remote play for PS 4 gamers. Games being played on the PlayStation 4 in the living room and in front of an LCD TV can be continued in an adjacent room, with a wireless controller and a PS TV display.
Owning a PlayStation TV also comes with perks that go beyond games. Streamed media from Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify are easily accessible, with content exclusively available to the device to boot.
A PlayStation review also confirms the PS TV supports back titles from the previous generation of consoles. A massive library of old titles, for the PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, and PS Vita are available as DLC. Sony's upcoming streaming service via PS Now is also compatible with the device.
Gamers have the option to purchase the PS TV as standalone unit or bundled with a DualShock 3 controller, an 8GB memory card, and a digital voucher for "The Lego Movie" videogame, at $139.99. The standalone unit (PS TV with HDMI and USB cable) is available at $99.
The PlayStation TV review hasn't confirmed or reported a definite release date for the device, but Sony has slated a Fall launch, which may coincide with the holidays. The PS TV is all but officially launched, with an E3 reveal and a TV ad to boot (latintimes.com).
