Yoshi's Woolly World Nintendo Wii U sets the console up for another wave of revival, a flagship title which appeals to the young and young-at-heart market.

Good-Feel Company is teaming up with Nintendo with a follow-up to the highly successful, irresistible Kirby's Epic Yarn. Yoshi's Woolly World is familiar game with a twist; everything in the game is rendered to look like crocheted or spun yarn.

Mario's dinosaur goes solo on this latest Nintendo installment, in environments made of wool, yarn, and other fabric. The game's dynamics is affected by the slight tweak, and Yoshi's tongue can be used in ways similar and new compared to previous standalone Yoshi titles.

An official reveal was made at E3 with a playable demo to boot, announced by Takashi Tezuka and Etsunobo Ebisu of Good-Feel company. Tezuka wanted developers to offer something other than a Kirby's Epic Yarn sequel.

"We said we wanted to make a Yoshi game, but we asked them to use the yarn and fabric as materials for creating new gameplay mechanics to create a new kind of Yoshi game filled with those kinds of elements."

Yoshi's Woolly World Nintendo Wii U received very positive reviews at Nintendo's E3 booth. Displayed in true high-definition, the game's cutesy graphics stays faithful to Nintendo's flagship titles of family-friendly games.

Ebisu also maintains the game is wide open for exploration, removing level boundaries indicative of previous Nintendo platformers. "With Yoshi games, they don't have any time limits, so you're able to freely explore the vast game world. You can make new discoveries ... in the case of Yoshi, he's so almighty, if he tries, he can fly as far as he wants. His tongue is the most powerful weapon."

Nintendo's most recent release in the Yoshi series is last March's Yoshi's New Island. Yoshi's Woolly World Nintendo Wii U release date is still to be confirmed (polygon.com).
