Sum 41's Deryck Whibley, 34, finally and legally drops his ex-wife's name almost four years after their divorce.
TMZ reports the rocker's request to drop “Lavigne” from his moniker was court-approved last Thursday.
Whibley filed the request to revert his name back to the original in November of 2013 a few months after “Complicated” singer Avril Lavigne married Nickelback front man, Chad Kroeger.
According to TMZ, Whibley secretly added the “Hello Kitty” singer's name to his own, becoming Deryck Jason Lavigne Whibley, shortly after their marriage in 2006. They announced their split in 2009 and officially divorced in 2010.
Despite the divorce, the 29-year-old singer remains friendly with her ex-husband. She encouraged him to get better back in May when he was hospitalized for a month.
The “All The Small Things” singer revealed his illness was the result of to too much “boozing.” Whibley revealed in an emotional post on his website that he had been “drinking hard every day.”
He also added, “My liver and kidney’s collapsed on me. Needless to say it scared me straight. I finally realized I can’t drink anymore. If I have one drink the docs say I will die.”
Lavigne called up her ex and even took to Twitter, writing, “Spoke to @Sum41 Deryck today. I am so proud of him. He is family to me and always will be. #StayStrongDeryck.”
She also retweeted several fan tweets from the said hashtag. The Sum41 frontman is currently recovering well with the help of his fiancé, Jocelyn Aguilar.
He is also eager to write new music and start touring again. He said that he got back his passion for composing after the near-death experience.
The Canadian rockers' last album, “Screaming Bloody Murder” was released in 2011. Meanwhile Avril Lavigne's Japanese pop-inspired “Hello Kitty” is receiving much love from fans all over the world.
