It seems the Terminator Franchise is turning over a new leaf as rumors began to circulate that a new Terminator will be taking Arnold Schwarzenegger's place.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (Fast and Furious, G.I. Joe), is the leading candidate to play the Terminator Role. Johnson, for the past few years, has been racking up lead roles after another. This 2014, he will also star in Hercules: The Thracian Wars as the titular character.
According to Examiner.com, Johnson - who along with blockbuster film roles has also returned to WWE - would be skipping Wrestlemania. As far as priorities are concerned, Johnson has been concentrating on movies for the past years and he is taking advantage of most of his Hollywood demand, most recently with a larger role in Fast & Furious 6. According to the site's sources, the screenwriting duo of Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier are apparently developing a script centered on a new robotic menace to be played by Johnson.
"Incredibly, Arnold Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger's remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today's standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination."
As far as succeeding the original Terminator, Dwayne Johnson resembles the qualities of a terrifying terminator. He is muscular, got that deep voice and most importantly, the intimidating factor. Fans online have mixed reactions towards this but majority have agreed that Johnson is a worthy candidate Schwarzenegger can pass the torch to.
Terminator 5 is directed by Alan Taylor and set to be released on Jan. 1 2015.
