"The Shield" actor Michael Jace pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to the May 19 shooting death of his wife, April Jace, according to Fox News.

Jace was arrested when LAPD responded to a 911 call directing police to the couple's Hyde Park home, according to E! News. The actor's been held in jail on $2 million bail since the arrest, and was officially charged with murder on May 22.

Police say that Michael Jace called 911 to report the killing.

The 51-year-old actor was reportedly ordered to stay 100 yards away from his and April's two sons.

The children were both home at the time and unharmed.

Jace's attorney, Jason Sias, stated that his client did not contest the protective order regarding his children because he "wants to do what is best for them."

"Mr. Jace is just concerned about his children," stated Sias after the hearing.

The actor is reportedly scheduled to return to court on August 1 for a possible preliminary hearing involving evidence in the case. Police have not disclosed a motive for the death, but have stated that they are looking into whether financial or domestic issues may have been involved.

April Jace's family has reportedly called her death a senseless act of domestic violence.

Fire officials have released a 911 call from April Jace's father in which he says the actor told him he had shot the victim.

"My son-in-law called me, and (texted) me, and said come get the kids because he shot April, our daughter," the caller, whose name was redacted from the audio, reportedly told a fire department dispatcher.

A statement from the family of April Jace obtained by NBC L.A. said, "We cannot reverse the senseless violence that resulted in April's death but we can invest in the lives of her innocent children that are paying the price for it."
