Chelsea Handler To Leave ‘Chelsea Lately’?; Signs Contract With Netflix

It looks like the late-night laughs that "Chelsea Lately" has been giving us will be coming to a stop in the near future.

Chelsea Handler will reportedly not be continuing her current late-night talk show on E! and has signed a seven-year deal with Netflix, according to NY Daily News.

"If I was going to continue working in this industry, I knew I had to do something outside the box to keep myself interested. I wanted to sit with the cool kids at lunch so I approached Netflix to make sure they were as cool as I thought they were, and when I confirmed my suspicions, like with any other future lover, I made my move," stated the 39-year-old host.

Handler added, "I'm more excited than I've been in a while, and the team at Netflix is the most forward thinking, alert group I've sat down with in ages. No offense to the Shahs of Sunset."

Handler's E! contract was set to expire in December, but once she started publicly speaking negatively about the network, her final show was reportedly moved up to August 26.

The comedian had reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the E! show, stating that the network "didn't know how to handle or market it."

Handler will reportedly tape her first comedy special for Netflix on Friday night in Chicago, as part of her current "Uganda Be Kidding Me" tour. It is scheduled to be released on the streaming service on October 10.

There will also be four "docu-comedy series" that will air throughout 2015, according to the Latin Post.

These series will be "featuring her efforts to gain a better understanding of a variety of subjects ranging from NASCAR to politics and from Silicon Valley to the NBA draft," Netflix stated.
