The latest happenings at Fox News have proven that for Megyn Kelly age and position in politics is not a big issue. Kelly has grilled former Vice President Dick Cheney on Fox News Wednesday night for publishing an op-ed with his daughter Liz Cheney.
The father-daughter tandem wrote in The Wall Street Journal that President Barack Obama has "rarely" been "so wrong about so much at the expense of so many." They were referring to Obama's means of handling the subsequent crises that occurred in Iraq.
Kelly has her own show "The Kelly File" and during her show she read the quote to Cheney and told him, "But, time and time again, history has proven that you got it wrong as well, Sir." She then continued by firing off a long list of the claims that Cheney has made during this service at the White House, which ended up being flat-out wrong and disputed.
For instance, Cheney once said that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, that the insurgents in Iraq were in their "last throes" in 2005, that the American soldiers will eventually be "greeted as liberators", and that Islamic extremists would have to "rethink their strategy of jihad" after the intervention of the United States.
After reading the list to Cheney, Kelly then asked him, "Now, with almost $1 trillion spent there, with 4,500 American lives lost there, what do you say to those who say you were so wrong about so much at the expense of so many?"
Cheney seemed initially taken back with Kelly's question, but was quick to respond in defense to the actions of the Bush administration in Iraq. He said, "Well, I just fundamentally disagree, Reagan - uh, Megyn. You've got to go back and look at the track record. We inherited a situation where there was no doubt in anybody's mind about the extent of Saddam's involvement in weapons of mass destruction. We had a situation where, after 9/11, we were concerned about a follow-up attack. It would involve not just airline tickets and box cutters as the weapons, but rather something far deadlier, perhaps, even a nuclear weapon."
Heading towards the end of the discussion, Kelly then said, "The suggestion, then, is that you caused this mess, Mr. Vice President. What say you?" Cheney, undeterred, responded, "Well, obviously, I disagree. I think we went to Iraq for very good reasons."
