"Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" actress Gemma Arterton staged her first singing debut via musical "Made in Dagenhem." At first, the actress was "a bit nervous" because she only sings in karaoke when drunk, she told Reuters on Tuesday.

"I'm not a musical theatre actor, I don't sing, I mean I only sing in karaoke when I'm really drunk. So I was like, 'Am I going to be able to do this?'" Gemma Arterton said.

In the launch of the musical version of the film "Made in Dagenham," she added, "I had sung bits and bobs of karaoke and stuff but nothing like this."

After undergoing a series of workshops, the 28-year-old British actress said she "just fell in love with the whole project."

Gemma Arterton's first singing debut "Made in Dagenham" revolves around the story of women workers at a Ford plant near London. In 1968, women workers, led by Gemma Arterton's character Rita O'Grady, called on equality for pay with the men workers and against sexual harassment, the Telegraph UK reported.

"Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" actress Gemma Arterton said that theatergoers will be "moved" by the West End adaptation of the 2010 British film.

She said, "I hope that...the story itself, which is completely relevant, and the fact that it's about women - and I think most of the people that go to musical theatre are women - but I think it's just one of those shows that you can't help but be moved by it."

"Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" actress Gemma Arterton also traced back her family roots in Gravesend, a town near Dagenhem and said that she is moved by the story on workers. According to Reuters, the British actress' mother worked as a cleaner and her father a welder.

The Rupert Goold-directed musical play will be staged at the Adelphi Theatre on the Strand in the latter part of this year.
