The improbable is now possible, as EA offers Titanfall free download for forty-eight hours of play; PC gamers can now sample the title before purchase, unadulterated and with all the features intact.
It'll be a great week for PC gamers starting today, as Electronic Arts decides to offer a premium title for free play. Titanfall has been out for weeks now, but the perk of a trial copy prior to purchase sweetens the deal.
Gamers who've yet to purchase and play a copy of Titanfall have the best chance to do so this week, with EA's announcement of free-for-all downloads of the title starting Friday. Gamers have a chance to exhaust what the game has to offer within 48 hours, though.
There's a silver lining to the catch: the clock of free play will only start ticking as soon the game starts. Players can hold on to their copies for months and the offer will still stand.
In contrast to publishers' default strategy of releasing sample or beta copies, the Titanfall free download is the full version of the game. Players sample all the features, with time as the only restriction.
The official EA blog complements the offer with a tease. "Haven't felt the thrill of dropping an 18-foot tall metallic beast on your opponent? What about the rush of leaping from wall to wall through the war-torn alleyways of a devastated compound? This is your chance to really see for yourself what Titanfall is all about. The offer is part of EA's initiative of full, free games, available for a limited period (Origin Game Time). Respawn's Titanfall for the PC is the first of a series of games available to Origin users.
The Origin Game Time clock for the Titanfall free download expires exactly after 48 hours of play, which includes pauses and stalls mid-game. Succeeding Origin Game Time releases will likely come with their own time period and expiration (polygon.com).
