Jolie's role in the film helped in its success, surpassing 2005's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." Her performance as the Disney film's anti-hero of sorts caught the attention of more than movie fans (nydailynews.com).
It's reported Square Enix took note of the unlikely fairy tale twist in "Maleficent," and is considering incorporating Jolie's character in its upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3. Jolie is expected to lend her A-list charms to boost the game's launch, to reprise her role as voice to the villain.
The tie-up between Angelina Jolie Kingdom Hearts 3 is expected, and it's unlikely Square Enix will pass on the opportunity. Although reports of the role are yet to be confirmed, the creative director for the RPG series hinted hope when asked about the possibility: "I'm not saying anything but you're in for a surprise."
Jolie has been associated with game heroines before, when she played Lara Croft in the "Tomb Raider" film adaptations. The movie also helped boost sales of consequent releases for the Tomb Raider games.
Jolie has confirmed she's an actual fan of the Tomb Raider games. "I only eventually played the role because it's about a very strong woman. It was exposing, but in a way where I thought, 'I really like what she represents as a woman', and so if I'm exposed in that way it's okay. When I agreed to play her, I didn't realize how much of an icon she was. There are magazines on where she went to school, and the music she liked... it's very bizarre!" (enixorigin.com)
