Anderson Silva's comeback is confirmed by "The Spider" himself, who further statedhe continues his training with Team Nogueira.
"The Spider" promised that he will return to professional mixed martial arts competition through a training video with his boxing coach Edelson Silva, which was released via Youtube.
"I'll be better now, but I'm fine," Silva said in Portuguese. "I just can't kick and jump."
When Anderson Silva was asked about a comeback date, he had one simple answer.
"Next year."
Anderson Silva's comeback has become more possible according to medical experts. Although no specific date for his return has been given, his doctors in the United States have given him the clearance to do sparring in the gym.
"There's no exact recovery timetable for this type of injury," Dr. Marcio Tannure said in an interview with MMA Fighting. "It could take three months or one year, but he had a good recovery and we're happy. It's going as we expected."
Anderson Silva was forced into the sidelines after suffering a vicious broken leg from a checked leg kick by Chris Weidman in their championship rematch at UFC 168 in December 2013.
Since then, he has been undergoing recovery and rehabilitation for six months now. While he is showing promising signs physically, most experts believe that the most crucial part of the Anderson Silva comeback would be "The Spider's" mindset once he steps back into the cage.
"His recovery was great, but now we have to work on his mind and get rid of the mental block," Dr. Tannure continued. "It could take a while, maybe not. It would be really hard to say right now he can or can't fight this year."
Reigning champion Chris Weidman, who defeated "The Spider" twice, partially agreed with Dr. Tannure statements, but was mainly unsure about what he feels about an Anderson Silva comeback.
"If he comes back healthy and his mind's in the right place, I'd love to see him come back," Weidman told MMA Junkie. "But if he comes back and he's truly not healthy, if he's not kicking with that leg like he used to, if he's not mentally confident like he usually was, then I hope he doesn't come back."
