Rurouni Kenshin Movie 2014: The "Rurouni Kenshin" sequels "Kyoto Inferno" and "The Legend Ends" are sure to go to some Asian and Australian theaters. According to Anime News Network, SM Theatres confirmed that they will screen the sequels in the Philippines. The first sequel, "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" will open across the country on Aug. 20, to be followed by "Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends" on Sept. 24.
Reportedly, ahead of the Philippines schedule, Kyoto Inferno opens August 1st in Japan and Australia. It will be quickly followed by the third instalment in the trilogy, The Legend Ends on September 13th for both countries. Madman Entertainment's panel at Supanova Pop Culture Expo 2014 in Perth confirmed the showing of the film in the land down under.
According to Comic Book Movie, Takeru Satoh returns to star as Kenshin Himura, along with co-stars Emi Takei, Munetaka Aoki and Yuu Aoi. Joining them in the movies are Tao Tsuchiya, Ryunosuke Kamiki, Yusuke Iseya, and Tatsuya Fujiwara as Shishio. Keishi Ōtomo returns to the director's chair as well to complete his Samurai X trilogy.
Rurouni Kenshin anime series adaptation aired in Japan from 1996 to 1998 and laid several anime film and video projects.
"Viz Media publishes both manga in North America, while Media Blasters released the television anime. A.D.V. Films released two later original video anime projects and a film on DVD, and Aniplex released these three titles on Blu-ray Disc. Sentai Filmworks released the two more recent video anime series on Blu-ray Disc and DVD, which also covered the Kyoto arc. In Australia Madman Entertainment have released the original television anime series, both OAVs and the anime film as seperate titles and in 2013 collected the entire set into one box release, they also released the most recent OAV last year. Madman Entertainment held theatrical screenings of the first Rurouni Kenshin live-action movie in 2012 and followed with a home video release in March 2013," Anime News Network reported.
The two films cover the Kyoto Arc of Nobuhiro Watsuki's original historical action manga which ran from 1994 to 1999 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and sold over 58 million copies.
