The View TV Show revealed on Thursday that Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy are the leaving the show having Whoopi Goldberg as the sole remaining cast member for now. Defamer reported that Goldberg is gloomy about the change that took place.
"This old place used to seem a lot bigger," she sighs. "And, wait-didn't there used to be other people here?" She tries to remember. "An older one, two blonde ones? Maybe some others?" She shakes her head, laughing gently. "Ah, what am I saying. The quiet really does get to you..."
A source told E! News that the proposed overhaul came as a surprise to Shepherd and McCarthy. The announcement came a month after Barbara Walters, The View's cocreator and so-called lead voice, retired herself from the position.
"The View will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively," ABC stated.
"It's been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on," Shepherd said in a personal statement to Deadline. "I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and Bill Gedde for giving me the opportunity. I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my View family and my fans for supporting me on this journey."
"My View will be changing too. As will with many hard working folks. Thanks to everyone at the show for your dedication and an amazing year," McCarthy tweeted about leaving the show.
"In Sherri's case, there were negotiations but they were unable to reach an agreement," a source hushed to US Weekly regarding Shepherd's exit.
As for McCarthy, who just joined the show last September as a replacement for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the source says, "Jenny's departure was the result of a decision to move the show in a different direction creatively."
The View had Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos, Joy Behar, Lisa Ling, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Rosie O'Donnell as co-hosts.
