Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari commended his team for having beaten Chile in a penalty shoot out in the last 16 round. The host team will have a match against Colombia in the quarter-finals round after a 3-2 victory over Chile in a 1-1 draw.

Scolari told reporters, "We took upon ourselves this mission that we must be champions. If you make a promise you must deliver. This is what the players are doing.

Scolari further released a statement, saying:

"This game summed the World Cup up for me - two teams who want to attack.

"Brazil has got away with it. They have not reached the level they can but they keep getting the luck.

"Going forward, apart from Neymar, it is a weak point for Brazil. They are reasonably solid defensively but struggle in attack."

"There are three more games to see if we can reach heaven."

Scolari felt nervous, afraid and anxious, fearing their near exit from this year's World Cup with Chile's Mauricio Pinilla hitting the crossbar suddenly at the last minute of the game.

"In every match, the difficulties are escalating," Scolari, who led Brazil to 2002 World Cup glory, said in a joyful mood. "The World Cup has shown that teams are very balanced. If you cannot exploit one or two or three chances, as we didn't today, then you might pay the price for that and go out." he gladly said, relieved of being safe from elimination.

Analysis

"I've never seen such an emotional bunch of players as Brazil. Their togetherness and spirit is incredible.

"Before the game they were crying, during the huddle before the shootout they were all crying. It looks like they are struggling to contain themselves."
