In recent World Cup news, Uruguay soccer player Luis Suarez released a statement claiming that he did not purposely bite Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during their FIFA match.

According to the Associated Press, Suarez wrote to FIFA's disciplinary panel that "in no way it happened how you have described, as a bite or intent to bite."

Suarez testimony can be found in paragraph 6 of FIFA's ruling. He also gave a play by play of what he recalled happening in the incident.

"After the impact...I lost my balance, making my body unstable and falling on top of my opponent," wrote the striker for the Uruguay team. "At that moment I hit my face against the player leaving a small bruise on my cheek and a strong pain in my teeth."

However, the FIFA seven-man panel believes the bite was in fact "deliberate, intentional and without provocation."

As a result, Suarez has been banned from nine Uruguay matches and playing soccer for four months.
