British singer Ed Sheeran's latest album "X" breaks 2014 album sale record at number one.

Sheeran, who released "X" last week, pushed Coldplay to a distant second following his album's quick rise to the top of the charts.

Albums sales for "X" has reached 182,000 on its first week, which is 14,000 more copies sold compared to Coldplay's "Ghost Stories," according to BBC.

Sheeran's first number one single, "Sing", is also included off of "X" which is read as "multiply" and not as the letter itself.

Prior to the release of his album "X," Sheeran talked to Spotify and dished on what it was like living without money and then having too much of it too soon, Music-News has said.

"I never had money and then I had a lot of it. There was never an in between. It wasn't that long ago I was having to ask friends to pay for train tickets so I could get to the studio. I'd have one pound a day to buy chips and I was always thinking about where I would sleep next."

Other than Sheeran, 19-year-old Dutch house producer Oliver Heldens and 20-year-old Worcestershire singer/songwriter Becky Hill topped UK's singles chart.

Lana Del Rey's "Ultraviolence" album dropped to the number 3 spot while Sam Smith's "In the Lonely Hour" rose from the third to the second spot, The Guardian reported.

Another chart topper is no less than Mastodon, a metal quartet group from Atlanta, whose single "Once More 'Round the Sun" dropped at the number 10 spot.

UK single charts top five include "Overdrive" by Oliver Heldens and Becky Hill, followed by "Ghost" by Ella Henderson, "Sing" by Ed Sheeran, "One More Day (Stay With Me)" by Example and "Budapest" by George Ezra.

UK albums top five include Coldplay's Ghost Stories at number one and Paolo Nutini's "Caustic Love" at number five.
