Looks like Sony and Apple should step it up in their next wave of "mini" releases; the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini specs pack a wallop in a small package, set to launch later this month.
Most of the leaks on the new S5 mini are confirmed, and it is possible for such a small package to feature such impressive features. The unit does come with a few compromises; the S5 Mini is a downscaled version of the S5, in terms of dimension and not in features, so it's expected Samsung will pinch the build a bit.
The device was officially unveiled Tuesday, and Samsung CEO JK Shin commented on the S5 Mini's minimalist design: "We always strive to develop devices that appeal to a range of consumer tastes and styles. The Galaxy S5 mini allows consumers to enjoy the iconic design and essential and useful features of the Galaxy S5 through a maximized minimalism approach."
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini specs are at par with the Galaxy S5, but high-spec considering the device's dimensions. LG has yet to release its own "mini" device; the standard has been raised and the competition is expected to keep up.
A smaller build comes with several limitations, and it's understandable Samsung optimized the specs for extended use. The processor is a decent 1.27GHz quad-core, to compensate for the smaller battery. There's 16GB of internal storage, expandable to 64GB with a MicroSD card.
At 8MP, the rear-facing camera is acceptable, even the 2.1MP front-facing setup. The S5 Mini is Samsung's premium handset, and is dust and water-resistant like previous releases.
The 4.5-inch display comes with 720p resolution, but compensates with the vibrant colors and contrasts of the AMOLED technology implemented in the S5.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini specs come in a compact, lightweight package, at 120g and measuring 131.1 x 64.8 x 9.1mm. Samsung is set to release the S5 Mini in Russia late July, with a full launch scheduled in the following months (yahoo.com).
