Hyundai Elantra touring cars are reportedly being recollected in the North America. According to Reuters, Hyundai Motor Co is recalling 58,000 Elantra Touring cars in the USA and Canada. Reportedly, the US safety regulators said that a support bracket to the car's headliner may become loose during a side curtain air bag deployment for model years 2010 to 2012.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that if this bracket makes contact with anyone during a crash, it may cause lacerations. This condition may pose a threat of injury to the car occupant if contact is made between the occupant and the headliner support bracket in an event of a side impact collision.

NHTSA's initial investigation was reportedly prompted by an injury to a driver of an Elantra from a part that dislodged during an air bag deployment that resulted in a laceration to the driver's left ear.

However, Jim Trainor, a Hyundai Motor America spokesman wrote in response to an Edmunds query said that there have been no reports of injuries related to this issue.

"There have been no reports of injuries from the bracket during a side curtain airbag deployment and the Touring headliner is different than the Elantra headliner that was cause for a recall last year," Trainor wrote according to Edmunds.

Detroit News reported that the "new recall comes after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation in December after the Korean automaker recalled 190,000 2011-13 Elantras in March 2013 for possible airbag problems. The recall covers 35,000 vehicles in the United States and 23,600 in Canada."

Hyundai said that "at least one Elantra Touring car was found in a salvage yard with a dislodged metal support bracket during NHTSA's investigation." According to Detroit News, Hyundai conducted testing with NHTSA on June 3 in Ann Arbor and in one instance the support bracket came loose.

Hyundai dealers will apply adhesive strips to the headliner, NHTSA said. The recall is expected to begin by mid-August.
